The EduText technology tool provides parents/guardians a daily grade and attendance update via their cell phones.  These text messages will provide a live snapshot of a student’s cumulative grades and attendance that day, so parents/guardians have an accurate account of their child’s academic progress. Parents/guardians can go deeper into those details through the ATLAS Parent Portal.  The portal can be found under the parent tab at www.fresnounified.org .

Registration for EduText can be done from your cell phone.  Locate your EduText Parent PIN on your child’s progress report, the ATLAS Parent Portal or through your school office.  Text that Parent PIN to 28527 (ATLAS).  For families with multiple Fresno Unified students, you will need to text 28527 (ATLAS) separately for each of your EduText Parent PINs.  Activation is immediate; updates will begin the following school day.  Additional subscribers can be added using the same process.

To create a parent portal, you will need the Family Account Login information for each student you are adding to your personal parent portal. This can be acquired from your student’s site or by calling FLATS at 559-457-3939. You will create the parent portal at parents.fresnou.org

The district will provide grade-level appropriate content and other resources on the device.  Additional content must be vetted through the student’s teacher to the Information Technology Team for approval to be used as a distance learning resource.

The district will be using Software Center to manage the Windows devices. The district cannot remotely monitor location, turn on services, or access the device camera with these management solutions. It is important that parents/guardians monitor their students’ device usage.

Below are important tips for students and parents/guardians to ensure privacy and security:

  • Don’t give out personal information online, such as name, phone number or home address
  • Never send pictures to strangers
  • Don’t access web content without permission
  • Tell an adult if you receive a mean or strange message
  • Students should use devices in common areas for easy monitoring
  • Use the browser’s safe search settings if available

  • FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
  • COPPA- Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act
  • CIPA- Children’s Internet Protection Act
  • SOPIPA- Student Online Personal Information Protection Act
  • California Education Code

Internet Safety – Fresno Unified has implemented content filtering and/or blocking technologies to restrict access to inappropriate material while on the district’s network.

The district has pre-installed an app from Gaggle. Gaggle has been implemented, this added functionality increases the protection of students in Gaggle districts utilizing Microsoft Teams, which allows teachers, students, and coaches to chat, meet, call, or collaborate with ease. The app monitors exchanges between students to ensure there is no bullying, discussion of weapons, etc.

Acceptable and Responsible use of technology– The student is expected to abide by the district’s Acceptable Use Policy and practice positive digital citizenship.

Good Digital Citizenship – To be a good digital citizen includes the responsible use of technology. Students are to act in ways that are safe, legal, and ethical. This includes positive interactions with others online, keeping personal information private, and respecting the work of others.
